Eleven people were killed and at least six others were injured in a shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center on Friday. The gunman was a city employee, and according to the police chief, he has died. This story is developing.
Missouri’s last abortion clinic will stay open thanks to a judge who ruled on Friday to allow the clinic to continue perfoming the procedure temporarily. The state’s health department had refused to renew its license, which would have made Missouri the first state with no abortion providers since the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade in 1973. Not today, Republicans, not today.
According to a South Korean news outlet, North Korea executed its nuclear envoy to the U.S. and four foreign ministry officials who worked on negotiations in the failed summit between Kim Jong Un and Trump earlier this year. They were charged with spying for the U.S. and held responsible for the summit’s collapse. Absolutely horrifying.
Of the almost 2,000 unaccompanied migrant children detained in border facilities, hundreds have been held longer than the legal time limit of 72 hours. These facilities are largely overcrowded, and at least six children have died since being held in them.
Measles cases in the U.S. reached a 25-year high with 971 cases in 26 states. FYI, measles was declared “eradicated” in the U.S. in 2000, but the virus has made a resurgence in communities where certain parents have refused the vaccine that prevents it.
Facebook said it banned a bunch of white nationalist groups after a gunman in New Zealand live streamed his massacre of 51 people, but they never actually left. Many are still on the platform and use it to recruit new members. But at least Zuck invented the poke button!
NASA hired three companies to help them land on the moon for the first time since 1972. The first mission hopes to launch by September 2020, just in time to tap out from this planet before the election! Brb, need to book a flight…
Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, the woman who just stole your parking spot in a Porsche Cayenne, used her show to defend Paul Nehlen, a notorious, unrepentant white supremacist. Ingraham stuck up for Nehlen as a prominent right-wing voice who had been “censored by social media.” Instead of firing her, like they should have years ago, Fox has defended her.
Last night’s Scripps National Spelling Bee ended in an unprecedented eight-way tie because apparently words like “moazagotl” and “choumoellier” were just too easy for these kids. The winners, who are all between 12-15 years old, each went home with $50,000. Ugh, what a bunch of choumoelliers.
RIP iTunes. Apple will replace it with separate music, TV, and podcast (hint, hint, wink, wink, rate and review!) apps next week. iSad :’(
