Wyoming State Fair

As we roll into August, many of you are busy finishing up (or just getting started!) with your county fairs, and thoughts are turning to State Fair. With the opening day less than two weeks away, excitement is building — and we’re here to help you make the most of every moment.

Exhibitor Appreciation

Fair would not be fair without all our amazing exhibitors, and we want to make sure you know how much we appreciate you! Tuesday, opening day, is Exhibitor Appreciation Day. Be sure to stop by the Beef Show Ring starting at 7:00 AM to grab a complimentary breakfast, served up by members of the Wyoming State Fair Board. Guests can get $1 off general admission by wearing a cowboy hat (that they should tip to our exhibitors!), and of course, join us at 6:00 PM at the Sheep Show Ring to kick off our livestock shows with the Champion of Champions Showcase. We are so excited to have you all back on the grounds and showing off your hard work!

Champion of Champions

If you were named the 2026 Grand Champion Market Beef, Goat, Lamb, or Swine exhibitor at your county fair, you're invited to compete in the Champion of Champions Showcase at the Wyoming State Fair! Your 4-H educator or FFA advisor can help you complete your entry, and don't forget to submit your biography for inclusion in the showbook. The biography form is available on our website, or you can contact the Wyoming State Fair office at 307-358-2398 if you have any questions. We hope to welcome champions from all 23 Wyoming counties as they compete for the title of Champion of Champions.

Wyoming State Fair

Celebrating 250th years for America

As we continue celebrating America's 250th birthday, we invite all our exhibitors to show off their patriotic spirit at the Wyoming State Fair! Pack your favorite red, white, and blue attire, flags, and patriotic decorations, then join the fun by entering our Livestock Stall Decorating Contest or Golf Cart Decorating Contest. It's a great chance to show your creativity, celebrate our country, and compete for prize money, bragging rights, and a banner.

Don't forget our special She's A Grand Old Flag competition in our Open Static Crafted Arts Department as well. We can't wait to see the fairgrounds decked out in patriotic pride.

Before You Haul

Keeping Wyoming's livestock healthy is a team effort, and it starts before you ever leave for the fairgrounds. Be sure your WSF Health Form is completed by your veterinarian within 14 days of your arrival, and take a few extra minutes to give your animals a thorough health check before loading the trailer.

Watch for any signs of illness or injury, including lethargy, a lack of appetite, fever, or unusual discharge. Take a close look for open or slow-healing wounds, swelling, or any evidence of parasites, including New World screwworm. Animals with screwworm may have wounds that don't seem to heal, drainage from the wound, or visible larvae (maggots). If you notice anything concerning, contact your veterinarian before traveling to the Wyoming State Fair rather than risking the health of your animal and others at the fair.

By arriving with healthy animals and practicing good biosecurity, you're helping ensure a safe and successful fair for everyone. Thank you for doing your part to protect Wyoming's livestock.

Learn more about New World screwworm and what to watch for by visiting the USDA's Screwworm.gov website and the Wyoming Livestock Board info below before heading to the fair.

Everyday Excellence in the Barns

Herdsmanship recognizes counties that consistently demonstrate excellent animal care, maintain clean and organized exhibit areas, engage with fairgoers, and show pride in their county throughout the week. While counties showing significant improvement remain competitive, the program is designed to reward consistency from opening day through the end of the fair.

Judging will take place throughout each day, allowing judges to see how counties maintain their exhibits, care for their animals, and interact with visitors over the course of the fair. Each day, judges will rank the top seven counties based on their overall herdsmanship performance. Counties that are not in the daily top seven will still receive a rating of Meets Expectations, Needs Improvement, or Major Concern, ensuring that every county receives meaningful feedback while remaining competitive throughout the week.

Judges will evaluate animal welfare, cleanliness, organization, safety, exhibitor engagement, and county pride. Counties will compete for herdsmanship awards within each livestock species, as well as the Best of the Barns Overall Herdsmanship Sweepstakes title, so every day and every species counts. Work together, take pride in your exhibit, and help us create a welcoming experience for everyone who visits the Wyoming State Fair.
